Unlike previous Megatouch units, the ML-1 is actually not painted. Black parts are made from a highly durable, thru-color polycarbonate blend that boasts exceptional impact strength. It’s black through-and-through, so a scratch will only reveal more black. Chrome parts are also scratch resistant, with a true metalized surface finish. Additional colors are not available at this time.

The ML-1 has a 3-year, bumper-to-bumper warranty.

The ML-1 uses a dual core 1.6GHz motherboard with a high-end dedicated graphics module.

Video-out is not supported at this time. However, the ML-1 incorporates an auxiliary port (currently blanked) in its lower-rear section, near its Ethernet connection. This port is intended for future output capabilities, including video-out.

The ML-1 requires a broadband Internet connection.

The ML-1 unit can be secured to a bar using the metal security loop on the back of the machine. Additional security can be added using kit: KAV-109-115-01.

Players can purchase tokens in bulk amounts from any ML-1 machine. Operators earn revenue when these purchases occur on their own ML-1’s. Once purchased, players can then redeem tokens to enable special in-game abilities and powers that allow them to play better and skyrocket their scores. Unclaimed (unused) tokens are saved inside a player’s account and can be used another time on any ML-1 machine, anywhere in the world. Remember, tokens can only be used to enable special abilities and cannot be used to purchase gameplay. Players have to spend credits before being able to redeem tokens, and credits don’t transfer from location to location.

Because tokens can be purchased, as well as earned, players will eventually be able to add tokens to their account via additional actions and devices. By allowing players to accumulate lots of tokens that can only be redeemed on an ML-1, players will have a great reason to seek out machines and play. Remember, tokens can only be used to enable special abilities and cannot be used to purchase gameplay. Players have to spend credits before being able to redeem tokens.

Players can manually log in by entering their username and password. Once an account is created, players can attach a player card to their account or set up a credit card or driver’s license (provided it has a magnetic strip) to act as a player card. Once a player is logged in, this can all be done on-screen by touching Account Settings under the Megatouch Live tab.

New challenges, games, menu enhancements, photos, and trivia will download automatically, and on a regular basis, ensuring the ML-1 is constantly evolving and always worth checking out. The first game update is scheduled for late October 2011.

Using multi-touch technology, Battle Arena games are intended to create more social interaction between players hanging out together at the bar. A head-to-head battle between two players at different locations is not supported at this time.

To access Operator Setup while standing in front of a machine, the operator simply needs to press the operator setup button inside the ML-1. The Operator Setup page can also be accessed online. See owner’s manual for more information.

Megatouch Live runs on Windows Embedded Standard 7 and does enable players to post scores and achievements to Facebook. However, it does not enable players or operators to access a web browser at this time.

Credit card proceeds are reconciled with the operator during the monthly AMI sweep process. Credit card proceeds will offset any proceeds owed to AMI and remaining proceeds will be credited to the operator’s bank account.

Software updates will continue to be made available for Megatouch Aurora, Megatouch Entertainer, Megatouch Rx, Ion Edge, Ion EVO, and Ion Fusion machines. Operators who purchase Megatouch 2012 software for legacy systems will receive a free memory upgrade. Please note: Non-widescreen machines require this memory upgrade. This free memory offer is only valid until December 31, 2011.

AMI will continue to support previously purchased legacy Ion machines for years. In fact, Megatouch Rx machines are still available for purchase.

Right now, the short answer is no. Development resources were instead used to create an app for iPhone and Android users that, among other things, will function as a music selector for AMI jukeboxes. This app will be available for download some time before the end of 2011. Due to initial feedback, Mike announced that AMI would investigate the effort in porting this app to the ML-1 once development is completed. At this time, there is no scheduled development for a TouchTunes selector.

AMI will make its smart phone app available to all iPhone and Android users at no cost.

Because the app is still in development, this has not been decided. Before launch, all AMI jukebox operators will receive a detailed FAQ sheet answering similar questions. Stay tuned.

Because the account is linked to the players Megatouch Live account, credits never expire and are stored “in the cloud.”

Megatouch iPad games will play a major role in marketing the ML-1 in 2012 and beyond. Stay tuned.

As in the past, AMI will continue to provide operators with promotional materials and tools to use on-location. Announcements will be made in the upcoming weeks as to how operators can order these ML-1 branded items. AMI will also be using online properties, social media, and app development to aggressively promote the ML-1 to players. AMI also made a major announcement that its partnership with Microsoft extends beyond just being a technology partnership. Both companies are working together on joint PR and marketing activities to promote the ML-1 and Megatouch Live.
